The New Berlin West Vikings will head out to square off against the Greendale Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. New Berlin West is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.6 runs per game this season.
Waukesha North hit New Berlin West with a four-run third inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Northstars. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Chloe Wegehaupt was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Serena Klein, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Greendale suffered their biggest defeat since April 8th on Monday. They came up short against Wisconsin Lutheran, falling 10-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Panthers, who until this contest were averaging 2.81 runs allowed.
Greendale saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Martin, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple.
New Berlin West's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Greendale, they suffered their first road defeat, dropping their record down to 12-3-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Berlin West has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.8 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greendale struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
New Berlin West suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Greendale when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
