The King City Mustangs will take on the Alisal Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. King City knows how to get runs on the board -- the squad has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Alisal likes a good challenge.
On Thursday, King City got the win against Rancho San Juan by a conclusive 14-4. Considering the Mustangs have won ten matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Meanwhile, Alisal had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 7-6 W against the Aztecs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Trojans have posted since March 3rd.
Nevaeh Lopez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Micah Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaliyah Ruiz, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Alisal kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive games.
Alisal pushed their record up to 17-5 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.1 runs over those games. As for King City, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.
King City might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Alisal in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
