Fisher Catholic is 9-1 against Millersport since April of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Irish are taking a road trip to square off against the Lakers at 5:15 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Millersport will face off against a team with plenty of momentum: Fisher Catholic extended their winning streak to four on Wednesday. The Irish put the hurt on Bishop Rosecrans with a sharp 13-3 victory.
Lauren Kersell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Fisher Catholic let Vanessa Funk and Lucy Watkins run wild. Funk went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Watkins went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI Watkins has posted since back in May of 2024. Taylor Terry also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
Fisher Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 11 consecutive matches.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Millersport and Harvest Prep had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Lakers blew past the Warriors 29-6 on Wednesday. The Lakers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kendyl Bonkowski was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Bonkowski was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emma Raver, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with six stolen bases, seven RBI, and four runs. Another player making a difference was Claire Haney, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with four stolen bases, four runs, and one RBI.
Fisher Catholic's record now sits at 10-5. As for Millersport, their record is now 12-4.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Fisher Catholic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. However, it's not like Millersport struggles in that department as they've averaged .426. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Fisher Catholic skirted past Millersport 6-5 in their previous meeting on April 2nd. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Irish since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
