The Alamosa Mean Moose had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 27-25 victory over Florence. For Alamosa, this counts as revenge for the 42-20 defeat Florence walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2022.
Alamosa can attribute much of their success to Dyson Woodward, who rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and also threw for 188 yards and two touchdowns. Alamosa also got a significant boost from Karter Tolsma, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.
When it comes to explaining why Florence lost, one person who can't be blamed is Luguse Nuss. Despite the final result, he rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also picked up 70 receiving yards. Nuss was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 51 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Tanner Wrast, who threw for 154 yards and two touchdowns on only nine passes.
Alamosa's victory bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Florence, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Alamosa will take on Woodland Park at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Florence, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on La Junta at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. La Junta will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
