Mt. Whitney hasn't had much luck against Redwood recently, but that could start to change on Monday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
On Tuesday, Mt. Whitney came up short against Golden West and fell 3-1.
Mt. Whitney started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 24-26, 25-14, 25-20, 25-15.
Meanwhile, Redwood didn't have quite enough to beat Porterville on Tuesday and fell 3-2.
Redwood wouldn't go down easily and took Porterville into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking two-point loss. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 16-14.
Mt. Whitney will need to focus on slowing down Elise Minnick, one of several Redwood players who made an impact when they last played. She had 24 assists and eight digs.
Redwood's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 15-13. As for Mt. Whitney, their loss dropped their record down to 5-14.
Mt. Whitney might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Redwood in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Pioneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
