Basketball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is Wayne's Seventh in Last Eight Outings

Wayne lost to Point Pleasant back in February of 2022, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Wayne Pioneers blew past the Point Pleasant Big Blacks 65-40. The Pioneers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Wayne's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ronnie Staley, who went 8-for-15 on his way to 17 points along with eight boards and six steals. With that strong performance, Staley is now averaging an impressive 2.2 steals per game. Peyton Marcum was another key player, going 5-for-8 en route to 12 points and three steals.

Wayne was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Point Pleasant only racked up nine assists.

When it comes to explaining why Point Pleasant lost, don't look at Carrsen Lambert. Despite the final result, he went 8-for-17 to rack up 23 points. Lambert has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Landyn Keefer, who posted four points and three steals.

Wayne is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 76.4 points over those games. As for Point Pleasant, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10.

Wayne has already played their next game, an 81-39 win against Poca on the 6th. As for Point Pleasant, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 51-17 defeat against Marietta on the 6th.
