Softball Recap: Paulding Has No Trouble Against Elida

Paulding owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Monday. They put the hurt on the Elida Bulldogs with a sharp 6-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won seven games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Tia Mendez was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Mendez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Mariah Klopfenstein was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Civil Pumphrey was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

Paulding kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 8-4 when they post 11 or more hits.

Paulding is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Elida, their loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 12-8.

Paulding and Elida are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Panthers will take on Liberty-Benton at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Elida, they will face off against Wapakoneta at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Redskins will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight.
