After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Sheboygan Area Lutheran, the Oconto Blue Devils were happy to have found some success on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 75-74 win over Oconto Falls. Given Oconto's advantage in MaxPreps' Wisconsin basketball rankings (they are ranked 140th, while Oconto Falls is ranked 381st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Oconto Falls' loss came despite strong showings from Jameson Beaman and Alex Haines. Beaman scored 28 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Haines scored 20 points along with three steals. Beaman continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Evan Yuma, who scored nine points.
Oconto's win bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Oconto Falls, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Oconto will take on Coleman at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oconto Falls, they will be playing at home against Wrightstown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Wrightstown is hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
