England extended their losing streak to nine on Monday, dropping them down to 3-14. They lost 16-5 to the Carlisle Bison. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bison this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-0 on April 3rd.
England saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mason Guess, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Wyon Johnson was another, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
As for Carlisle, they moved to 8-10 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak. The result was nothing new for the Bison, who have now won seven games by seven runs or more so far this season.
On Carlisle's side, Tyler Thrift made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Thrift also tossed a walk, which is notable because Carlisle is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-9 otherwise. Thrift was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That double marked the first that he has hit this season.
In other batting news, Brody Carpenter was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zayden Hale, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and two RBI.
Looking ahead, England will take on McGehee at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Carlisle, they will challenge Hazen at 4:30 a.m. on Friday.
