TAPPS Division I District 1 recap December 3, 2013
Prestonwood Christian's Eric Stevenson recorded the longest rushing play in TAPPS Division I District 1 this season in his game against Trinity Christian last week. Stevenson scampered for 62 yards on the play and finished with 149 on the day as his team topped the Trojans.
Prestonwood Christian added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Trinity Christian, 41-17. The victory was the 11th in a row for Chris Cunningham's team.
Luke Alves was a passing and rushing force as Nolan Catholic bested Liberty Christian.
Twayne Blackwell put up the best numbers in passing as the Lions topped Steve Hayes' team. He finished with 6 completions for 143 yards and 1 touchdown. Blackwell's favorite target this week was Michael Irvin, who caught 5 passes for 125 yards.
6-foot-4 quarterback Christian Hutzler of the Trojans is the league leader in passing yards this season with 3,169. He has also thrown 32 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Irvin. The Prestonwood Christian star has 80 catches for 1,124 yards.
Prestonwood Christian's Jonathan Heasley is a few successful plays short of surpassing 1,000 yards receiving this season. He needs only 44 receiving yards against the Vikings to hit that benchmark. He has recorded 68 catches for 956 yards this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Nolan Catholic takes on the Lions. At the moment, Joe Prudhomme's team is in third, while Prestonwood Christian is in first.
There should be lots of points scored when the Vikings and the Lions face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Nolan Catholic comes in having scored 481 this season, while Prestonwood Christian has scored 604. The Vikings scored 55 points last week as they defeated the Warriors.
Nolan Catholic scaled the state rankings by moving to 100 from 140 this week, the biggest jump in TAPPS Division I District 1. The Vikings were able to move up by topping Liberty Christian 55-20.
