The Decatur Central Hawks couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They fell 59-50 to Greenfield-Central on Tuesday. Decatur Central lost against Greenfield-Central in their previous head to head back in December of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 66-55 score last time.
Decatur Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Melakih Cunningham, who scored 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kc Berry, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds.
Greenfield-Central got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Braylon Mullins out in front who scored 28 points along with nine rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mullins has scored at least 25% of Greenfield-Central's points. Another player making a difference was Boston Willard, who scored 12 points along with six assists and four steals.
Decatur Central bumped their record down to 0-1 with that loss, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.7 points per game. As for Greenfield-Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 3-0.
Decatur Central will be playing in front of their home fans against Roncalli at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Greenfield-Central's road trip will continue as they head out to face New Palestine at 7:30 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully New Palestine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up seven on Saturday.
