Basketball Recap: Morehead Extends Winning Streak to Three

Morehead entered their tilt with McMichael on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They enjoyed a cozy 59-44 victory over the McMichael Phoenix. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 52-48 last Saturday.

Morehead's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Avery Bigelow, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards. Bigelow has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Josiah Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten boards.

Morehead was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McMichael only posted three assists.

McMichael's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JJ Tatum, who posted 14 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Williamson, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

Morehead has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-11 record this season. As for McMichael, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-15 record this season.

Morehead and McMichael could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings. Morehead will challenge T.W. Andrews at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday down 198 places (386 vs. 188). Meanwhile, McMichael (ranked 490th) will meet Walkertown (ranked 213th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
