It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Woodland had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Regent Prep 60-22. Fans of the Cougars have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Woodland to victory, but perhaps none more so than Trey Bennett, who rushed for 67 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 135 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes. The dominant performance gave Bennett a new career-high in rushing yards. Woodland also got a significant boost from Dray Long, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 107 yards.
Bennett was just one part of a punishing run game: Woodland was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 293 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in 13 consecutive games.
On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Woodland's defense and their nine sacks. Khamdyn Patterson led the group effort, picking up three of those sacks all by himself.
Woodland's victory bumped their record up to 13-0. As for Regent Prep, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 11-2 record.
Woodland didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 58-23 win against Talihina on the 13th. Regent Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
