Gloucester Catholic saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madelyn McGinn, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
The home team had won the previous four meetings between Wildwood and Salem, and Wildwood kept the tradition alive. The Warriors blew past the Rams 16-3 on Thursday. Considering the Warriors have won three matches by more than ten runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Emma Contreras made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Cydnee Kilian was a standout: she got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Addison Troiano, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Gloucester Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 5-3. As for Wildwood, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-7.
Monday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Gloucester Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .438. However, it's not like Wildwood struggles in that department as they've averaged .470. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
