Astronaut is 0-6 against Cocoa since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Astronaut War Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Cocoa Tigers at 7:00 p.m. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Astronaut fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. Everything went their way against Space Coast on Friday as Astronaut made off with a 34-14 victory. Astronaut pushed the score to 34-7 by the end of the third, a deficit Space Coast cut but never quite recovered from.
Meanwhile, Cocoa beat Titusville on Friday by the very same score they won with last week: 28-3. The victory was familiar territory for Cocoa who now have four in a row.
Cocoa's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Latrison Lane, who rushed for 141 yards and a touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Jayvan Boggs was in the mix as well, providing Cocoa with two touchdowns.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Titusville to a paltry 114 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Cocoa's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Javion Hilson and Da varrius "peewee" Robertson who racked up four sacks between them.
Their wins bumped Astronaut to 2-6 and Cocoa to 6-1.
Astronaut took a serious blow against Cocoa when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 56-0. Can Astronaut avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
