The Denton Broncos will head out on the road to face off against the Argyle Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Denton sitting on three straight victories and Argyle on six.
Last Friday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Denton beat Memorial 25-21.
Denton can attribute much of their success to LaMarques Robinson, who rushed for 206 yards. Jacobi Gladney was another key contributor, rushing for 71 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries.
Meanwhile, Argyle never let their opponents score last Thursday. They breezed by Independence on the road to the tune of 63-0. The result was nothing new for Argyle, who have now won four contests by 30 points or more so far this season.
Argyle found their leader in underclassman Maguire Gasperson, who threw for 131 yards and four touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Jake Krekeler was in the mix as well, providing Argyle with two touchdowns.
Denton's victory was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 4-4. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Memorial, Creekview, and Independence. As for Argyle, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Denton has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 225.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Argyle struggles in that department as they've been averaging 160.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Denton took a serious blow against Argyle when the teams last played back in October of 2022, falling 38-0. Can Denton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
