Meanwhile, Soldotna was able to grind out a solid victory over West Valley on Thursday, taking the game 4-1.
Like Colony, Soldotna also got a great game from a two-way player: Matthew Schilling. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). Those seven strikeouts gave Schilling a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Schilling wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Trenton Ohnemus, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits Ohnemus has posted since back in May of 2024.
