With a playoff win on the line, New Kent rose to the challenge on Monday. Everything went their way against the Kettle Run Cougars as they made off with an 11-3 win. Considering the Trojans have won 19 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Abbie Kegley was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Hannah Tober and Kendall White did most of the damage at the plate: Tober got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, while White went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Libby Britt also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
New Kent was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kettle Run only posted a batting average of .250.
The victory (which was New Kent's 15th in a row) raised their record to 21-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Kettle Run, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-10.
