The Gillespie Miners's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their seventh straight loss. They took a 79-61 bruising from Southwestern. Gillespie has not had much luck with Southwestern recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Ian Brantley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Southwestern, dropping a double-double on 28 points and ten rebounds. The match was Brantley's sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Lowis, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds.
Gillespie bumped their record down to 4-14 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Southwestern, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-6.
Gillespie will head out on the road to face off against South County at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Southwestern, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Jersey at 7:30 p.m.
