Max Dempsey was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Edisto's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 6-1 (and 4-8 when he doesn't).
Dempsey wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bennie Ulmer, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Ulmer has become a key player for Edisto: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Jefferson Davis Academy made easy work of Lake Marion on Monday and carried off a 14-1 win. The Raiders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by seven runs or more this season.
Like Edisto, Jefferson Davis Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Will Stillinger. On the mound, Stillinger tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Dalton Nix pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Stillinger went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run, while Nix got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three RBI gave Stillinger a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jefferson Davis Academy got a big performance out of Colson Loadholt, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Corbin Perry, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Jefferson Davis Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .606. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Jefferson Davis Academy's victory bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Edisto, their loss dropped their record down to 10-9.
Jefferson Davis Academy's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Edisto hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .362. It's a different story for Jefferson Davis Academy, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain Edisto's hitters?
Edisto came out on top in a nail-biter against Jefferson Davis Academy in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Raiders turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
