If the Union City Indians were riding high off their 56-32 takedown of the Anderson Prep Academy Jets last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The matchup between Union City and Union County wasn't particularly close, with Union City falling 50-36. If Union City hoped to take revenge for the 48-34 defeat against they when the teams met on Saturday, then they were left disappointed.
Despite the loss, Union City still got an impressive performance from Luane Schoonbroodt, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Schoonbroodt is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Oaklee Reichard was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Union City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Union County only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Katie McCashland was her usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with eight steals and five rebounds for Union County. As a matter of fact, that's the most points McCashland has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Ally Gray, who scored seven points.
Union City's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-10. As for Union County, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Union City will stay at home for another game and welcome Seton Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Union County will take on Knightstown at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Knightstown is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak.
