Basketball Recap: Southern Wayne Snaps Six-Game Streak of Losses at Home

Southern Wayne hadn't done well against C.B. Aycock recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Southern Wayne Saints snuck past the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons with a 66-62 win. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Saints' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while the Golden Falcons are ranked 223rd).

Southern Wayne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kairell Evans out in front who dropped a double-double on 29 points and ten boards. Those 29 points gave Evans a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Demetrius Elliot, who went 6 of 9 en route to 17 points.

C.B. Aycock lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jaiden Williams, who posted 13 points. Williams is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Anthony Jackson was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Southern Wayne's victory ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-12. As for C.B. Aycock, their loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Wayne will head out to challenge Hunt at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hunt has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games. As for C.B. Aycock, they will head out on the road to square off against South Johnston at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in C.B. Aycock's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six contests.
