The Woodward Academy War Eagles had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They secured a 71-65 W over Lovejoy. Given Woodward Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 43rd, while Lovejoy is ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Woodward Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Deke Cooper, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Cooper has scored at least 25% of Woodward Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zachary Foster, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Despite the loss, Lovejoy had strong showings from Noah Banks, who scored 12 points, and Chad Fairchild, who scored seven points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Fairchild has scored all season.
Woodward Academy's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. As for Lovejoy, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.
Woodward Academy won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pinson Valley at 2:30 p.m. on December 9th. Pinson Valley is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 64.4 points per game. As for Lovejoy, they will head out on the road to face off against Jonesboro at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Jonesboro has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
