Baseball Recap: Wellington Takes a Loss

After flying high against Boca Raton last Tuesday, Wellington came back down to earth. The Wellington Wolverines fell just short of the King's Academy Lions by a score of 9-8 on Friday. The Wolverines were not able to make up for their loss to the Lions from their previous meeting back in March of 2021.

Wellington got a good showing from Sebastian Burnett, who pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. That's the fewest hits Burnett has allowed since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Cristian Goncalves made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Trevor King was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Having lost for the first time this season, Wellington fell to 2-1. As for King's Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to a perfect 2-0.

Coming up, Wellington is packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season. they will square off against South Fork at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Fork's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Wellington's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for King's Academy, they will welcome Palm Beach Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. The last three games Palm Beach Central has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
