Basketball Recap: Floydada Extends Winning Streak to Four

Floydada entered their tilt with New Home on Friday with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the New Home Leopards 65-62. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Whirlwinds' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 523rd, while the Leopards are ranked 206th).

Floydada had a senior duo take command as Sergio Valadez went 10 of 11 on his way to 26 points and Braun Hobbs went 8 for 17 on his way to 22 points and five assists. The game was Hobbs' 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrean Henderson, who posted nine points and four steals.

Floydada has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for New Home, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 12-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Floydada will head out to take on New Deal at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Floydada's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight contests. As for New Home, they will venture away from home to face off against Ropes at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
