The Cedar Grove Panthers will square off against the Glassboro Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 879 yards in their previous games.
Cedar Grove is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Butler 24-21. The win was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on five straight.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Pierce Asfalg and David Smith. Asfalg had a great game and rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Smith was balling out in the loss, rushing for 301 yards and three TDs while picking up 8.9 yards per carry.
One reason for the win was Cedar Grove's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. George Dakar was especially locked on to Butler's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Glassboro's strategy against Burlington City on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Bulldogs blew the Blue Devils out of the water with a 44-8 final score. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 contests by 28 points or more this season.
Glassboro's win came from a few key players Cedar Grove will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Amari Sabb, who rushed for 112 yards and a pair of scores on only 14 carries, and also picked up 39 receiving yards. Another player making a difference was Xavier Sabb, who gained 81 total yards and two touchdowns.
Glassboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 315 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 224 rushing yards in three consecutive games.
Glassboro didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Kenny Johnson. Another thorn in Burlington City's side was Davon Barr, who made nine total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Cedar Grove's record is now 10-3. As for Glassboro, their record now sits at 13-0.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. Cedar Grove has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 390.8 total yards per game. However, it's not like Glassboro struggles in that department as they've been averaging 372.6 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Cedar Grove was taken down by Glassboro 56-14 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Panthers, Kenny Smith (who rushed for 402 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 20.1 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time.
