The Schaumburg Christian Conquerors will square off against the South Beloit Sobos at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Schaumburg Christian took a ten-run defeat the last time they faced off against Lake Forest Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Conquerors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Caxys on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Conquerors as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.

Jake Vandermeir made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vander Herman, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. James Carey was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, South Beloit entered their tilt with Alden-Hebron on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Green Giants a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Sobos, who have now won four games by eight runs or more so far this season.
Like Schaumburg Christian, South Beloit also got a great game from a two-way player: Cesar Alfaro. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Alfaro was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Zane Hagstrom and Jacob Wilhite did most of the damage at the plate: Hagstrom went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Wilhite got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Gage Pasiecznik, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.
South Beloit hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Alden-Hebron struck out ten times.
South Beloit's win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Schaumburg Christian, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Schaumburg Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Beloit struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Schaumburg Christian suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to South Beloit in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Will the Conquerors have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
