It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Rancho Cotate Cougars had no problem doing just that on Friday. They blew past Granada 40-18. The score was close at the half, but Rancho Cotate pulled away in the second half with 27 points.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rancho Cotate to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jacob Pruitt, who rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries, and also threw for 112 yards and a touchdown while completing 100% of his passes. Rancho Cotate also got a significant boost from Geovanny Ortiz, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 83 yards.
Several Matadors players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Quinn Boyd, who threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns.
The victory (which was Rancho Cotate's third in a row) raised their record to 7-4. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 38 points. As for Granada, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.
Rancho Cotate will head out on the road to face off against Windsor at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Windsor has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 315 points over their last seven matchups. Granada does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
