5A Continental recap September 17, 2013
Mountain Vista and Bear Creek played the most contested game in 5A Continental this week, with Mountain Vista eventually emerging with a 16-14 victory. Brock Rubley threw for 124 yards during the win.
Regis Jesuit took down Mullen 44-19 last week, the largest margin of any game. Matt Houghtaling threw for 63 yards and ran for 52 yards in the win.
Keaton Thames threw for 290 yards and 4 touchdowns. He went 14-18 with 2 interceptions.
Thames put up the best numbers through the air as Highlands Ranch topped Fossil Ridge. Thames' favorite target this week was Josh Kolber, who caught 2 passes for 89 yards.
Bartlett Tomatea made the biggest impact on defense this week as Douglas County beat Cherry Creek. He grabbed 6.0 sacks.
Matt Stanley was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 160 yards on 28 carries as ThunderRidge beat Grandview. Brody Westmoreland also contributed to the rushing game with 47 yards on the ground.
Hopper was the best receiver in the league this week as the Grizzlies topped the Wolves. Hopper racked up 6 receptions for 112 yards. Jon Jones helped ThunderRidge's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 79 yards.
6-foot-2 quarterback Thames of the Falcons is the league leader in passing yards this season with 552. He has also thrown 8 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Hopper. The ThunderRidge star has 15 catches for 298 yards.
The Golden Eagles made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 3,787 from 4,780. The advance stemmed from a 16-14 victory over the Bears last week.
