Basketball Game Preview: Lone Star Longhorns vs. Flagler Panthers

The Lone Star Longhorns will take on the Flagler Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Lone Star is headed into Saturday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They had to suffer through a 74-43 loss at the hands of Otis. While losing is never fun, the Longhorns can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 286th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 92nd).

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Jesus Hermosillo, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. He is becoming a predictor of Lone Star's success: when he posts at least ten rebounds the team is 2-1 (and 5-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Kuntz, who almost dropped a double-double with ten boards and nine assists.

Even though they lost, Lone Star smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Otis only five offensive rebounds.

Meanwhile, Flagler was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Otis and fell 73-36. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 53-13.

Lone Star's loss dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Flagler, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-15.

Lone Star couldn't quite finish off Flagler in their previous meeting back in February of 2024 and fell 41-39. Can Lone Star avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
