Basketball Recap: Tri-State Christian Drops Highest Score of Season Against Morning Star Academy

Tri-State Christian fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Morning Star Academy on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Morning Star Academy Mustangs 63-58. One positive for the Huskies, at least, is that this was the most points they've scored all season.

Tri-State Christian's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Nehemiah Smith, who went 7 for 14 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds, and Sam Fernandes, who went 8 of 14 en route to 17 points. The dominant performance gave Fernandes a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Noah Duenser, who posted seven points along with five assists and three blocks.

They weren't the only one working in the assists department: Tri-State Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Morning Star Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was David Martin, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 17 points and five boards. Martin is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaac Yowell, who scored 22 points in addition to six assists and five rebounds.

Tri-State Christian dropped their record down to 3-6 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Morning Star Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-7.

Tri-State Christian has already played their next match, a 65-31 loss against Quad Cities Christian on the 17th. Morning Star Academy has also already played their next game (against East Moline Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
