Baseball Recap: Coxsackie-Athens Wins Going Away Against Greenville

Coxsackie-Athens won against Germantown on Monday with 13 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Wednesday. The Riverhawks blew past the Greenville Spartans 13-1. The Riverhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine matchups by seven runs or more this season.

CJ VanAlphen tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Logan Weinstein was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Andrew Sager was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Coxsackie-Athens' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Greenville, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-9.

Coincidentally, Coxsackie-Athens and Greenville will both be playing Hudson the next time they take the field. The Riverhawks will host the Bluehawks at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Spartans will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
