After flying high against the Ray Bearcats on Saturday, the Bagdad Sultans came back down to earth. Bagdad fell 34-22 to Basis on Tuesday. Bagdad was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Basis apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Emily Mullaney was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with eight rebounds and six steals for Basis. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Mullaney has scored at least 25% of Basis' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Paris, who scored no points along with nine rebounds and five steals.
Bagdad bumped their record down to 3-7 with that loss, which was their third straight at home. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.0 points per game. As for Basis, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bagdad will square off against Anthem Prep at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Basis will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Red Mesa at 5:30 p.m. on January 19th.
