The Basis Yeti will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Grand Canyon Phantoms at 7:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Basis has four straight wins, Grand Canyon has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Basis has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 20 points or more this season. They breezed by Fredonia on the road to the tune of 72-14.
Basis' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Rowdy McGourin, who scored 22 points along with 4 steals, and Jack Engelthaler, who scored 21 points along with 7 steals and 5 assists. The contest was Engelthaler's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Daniel Quiroz was another key contributor, scoring 9 points along with 5 assists and 3 steals.
Meanwhile, Grand Canyon had to suffer through a rough 97-25 loss at the hands of Pinon.
Tristan Lambon was Grand Canyon's leading scorer, having posted 11 points.
Arron Alonzo held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Basis pushed their record up to 5-1 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the matchups in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 34.67 points. As for Grand Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: Basis have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6 threes per game. It's a different story for Grand Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 1.5 per game. Given Basis' sizeable advantage in that area, Grand Canyon will need to find a way to close that gap. Everything came up roses for Basis against Grand Canyon in their previous meeting back in February as the squad secured a 76-43 victory. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Grand Canyon's Roman Evans, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 18 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Basis to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
