Pittsfield and Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2017, but likely not for long. The Saukees are taking a road trip to take on the Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Pittsfield came out on top against Seymour on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run second inning. The Saukees beat the Indians by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. Winning may never get old, but the Saukees sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Lila Simon made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Grace Henry was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Emma Henry, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia came tearing into Thursday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Crimsons get on the board and left with a 6-0 victory.
Like Pittsfield, Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia also got a great game from a two-way player: Mylee Tracy. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Tracy was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lindy Parlier, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April. Lucie Dion was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in nine consecutive contests.
Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia pushed their record up to 21-5 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Pittsfield, their record is now 18-7-1.
Friday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Pittsfield has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .463. However, it's not like Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia struggles in that department as they've averaged .488. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pittsfield came out on top in a nail-biter against Triopia/Meredosia-Chambersburg/Virginia in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Saukees since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
