Ella Godfrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up 17 Ks. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
At the plate, Mississinawa Valley let Cora Hoggatt and Emma Brock run wild. Hoggatt scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Brock went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI. Hoggatt has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last match, Union City made sure to put some runs up on the board against Southern Wells on Friday. The Indians blew past the Raiders 11-2. The win continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won three in a row.
Kierra Thacker looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024.
On the hitting side, Union City got a massive performance out of Brianna Williams, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That's the most runs Williams has posted since back in May of 2024. Abby Zigler was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.
Union City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .568. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Southern Wells only posted an OBP of .345.
Mississinawa Valley's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Union City, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Mississinawa Valley suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Union City in their previous matchup back in April of 2023. Can the Blackhawks avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
