Academy Charter will head out on the road to face off against the Central Blue Devils at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Academy Charter can finally bid farewell to their ten-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game last Wednesday. They walked away with a 61-52 victory over Freeport. The victory was just what Academy Charter needed coming off of a 87-47 defeat in their prior game.
Academy Charter's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Joel Beard, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Emmanuel Derosier was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, even though Seton Hall Prep scored an imposing 59 points on Thursday, Central still came out on top. Central sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 61-59 win over Seton Hall Prep.
Central's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malik Bass led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Anderson, who scored 16 points.
The victory got Academy Charter back to even at 1-1. As for Central, they pushed their record up to 1-0 with that victory, which was their third straight at home dating back to last season.
