Caden Saul made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (four). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kolton Wiley, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three runs gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Argenta-Oreana lost 12-2 to Arcola on Thursday. The loss continues a trend for the Bombers in their meetings with the Purple Riders: they've now lost four in a row.
Argenta-Oreana saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carter Logue, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one stolen base and one run. Logue has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Another was Landon Jackson, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Sullivan's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 2-11. As for Argenta-Oreana, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Sullivan has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Argenta-Oreana struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Sullivan couldn't quite finish off Argenta-Oreana in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 3-1. Will the Redskins have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
