The Wheeler Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matches by 26 points or more this season. They breezed by Amarillo Collegiate Academy at home to the tune of 63-35. Given Wheeler's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 506th, while Amarillo Collegiate Academy is ranked 1586th), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Defeat or not, Amarillo Collegiate Academy got some senior leadership from Leland Brashears who scored 14 points along with nine rebounds and four steals and Ashton Holtman who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
Amarillo Collegiate Academy struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Wheeler pushed their record up to 15-4 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.6 points per game. As for Amarillo Collegiate Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheeler will challenge Wellington at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Wellington will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. As for Amarillo Collegiate Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Immanuel Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Immanuel Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Friday.
