The Salida Spartans will challenge the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers at 9:00 a.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Salida picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over Meeker. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Spartans.

Matthew Edgington made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off five hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and two stolen bases. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.
In other batting news, Salida got a massive performance out of Orion Post, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Post has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. Ryus Mattix also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Salida always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meeker only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Montezuma-Cortez). They put the hurt on Roaring Fork with a sharp 22-2 victory on Thursday. The Panthers have beaten the Rams the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Rams has come to flipping the script.
Tegan Mestas made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Montezuma-Cortez is 3-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Mestas was also big at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and one run.
In other batting news, Montezuma-Cortez let Easton Pixler and Cory Carver run wild. Pixler fired off three home runs, four runs, and five RBI while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances, while Carver went 3-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and four runs. Pixler continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Parker Conrad, who got on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
Montezuma-Cortez now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Salida, their record now sits at 2-6.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Salida has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Montezuma-Cortez struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
