The Eastern Tech Mavericks waltzed into their contest Wednesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They strolled past Carver A&T with points to spare, taking the game 65-46. Given Eastern Tech's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while Carver A&T is ranked 278th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Eastern Tech to victory were Jericho Wondeye and Matthew Foley. Wondeye dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds, while Foley scored 23 points along with seven steals. Foley is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jake Prior, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Eastern Tech's victory was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Carver A&T, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern Tech will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Fort Hill at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Carver A&T will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on New Town at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
