Langham Creek is a perfect 10-0 against Cypress Lakes since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Lobos will be playing at home against the Spartans at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Langham Creek has 12 straight wins, Cypress Lakes has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Friday, Langham Creek got the win against Waller by a conclusive 7-1. Considering the Lobos have won 15 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Karli Challburg spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up 19 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one walk in 17 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Mia Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Martinez, who scored a run while going 3-for-4.
Langham Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in 14 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Cypress Lakes' offense. They came up short against Bridgeland on Friday, falling 16-0.
Langham Creek's victory was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 21-4. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Cypress Lakes, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-16.
Cypress Lakes' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Langham Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Cypress Lakes, though, as they've been averaging only 3 strikeouts. Will Langham Creek keep running through batters, or will the Spartans buck the trend?
Langham Creek took their victory against Cypress Lakes when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Lobos repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
