Durham took care of business in their home opener on Friday (and then some). They blew past the Redding Christian Lions 40-20. The victory was some much needed relief for the Trojans as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Joshua Harding had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 216 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.4 yards per carry. Perry Phillips was another key player, throwing for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
Durham's defense was in the mix too, especially the secondary: they snagged three passes before it was all said and done. Jack Stephens picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got the majority of those yards when he pulled down a pass and and took off for a gain of88 yards.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Durham was moving up and down the field and finished the game with 500 total yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Redding Christian only gained 238.
Despite the loss, Redding Christian saw an underclassman step up: Darren Goodman picked up 96 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Goodman also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, picking up two sacks and making three total tackles.
Durham is headed away from home for the first time to challenge Trinity at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Durham is no doubt hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. As for Redding Christian, they will square off against Biggs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Redding Christian will come in still looking for their first win of the season.
