The Flagler Panthers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They took a hard 52-36 fall against Stratton. While losing is never fun, Flagler can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 192nd, while Stratton is ranked 28th).
Despite the defeat, Flagler had strong showings from Jaylie Stone, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals, and Sydnie Berry, who scored six points along with three steals. That was a full 38.9% of Flagler's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. KaCee Jo Saffer was another key contributor, scoring four points along with 12 rebounds.
Leading Stratton to victory were Sedonia Isenbart and Clare Miltenberger. Isenbart scored seven points along with six assists and five steals, while Miltenberger dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Isenbart is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Claire Cure, who scored ten points.
Flagler has not been sharp recently as the team has lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Stratton, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-2.
Flagler will look to defend their home court on Friday against Bethune at 4:00 p.m. Hopefully Bethune focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday. As for Stratton, they will head out on the road to square off against Burlington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Burlington is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 54 points per game this season.
