3A Region II District 11 recap October 1, 2013
Javaughn Thurmon and Niko Garza provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Crandall. The longest such play in 3A Region II District 11 this season, the connection resulted in 80 yards.
Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Ferris beat the Pirates 35-0. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Ferris' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Thurmon threw for 187 and 2 touchdowns and Garza had 104 yards receiving. On the ground Thurmon chipped in 115 yards. Darius Rouwtt helped Ferris' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 33 yards.
He was 8-16 with 0 interception.
Thurmon was the best running back in the league this week. In 20 carries, he ran for 115 yards as Aaron Emeyabbi's team defeated Crandall. Teammate Jay Foster added to the ground attack by rushing for 54 yards.
Ferris' offense cannot be tamed this season and the Yellowjackets feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Thurmon has thrown for 603 yards and 5 touchdowns this season, while Rouwtt has 12 catches for 255 yards.
Madison scaled the state rankings by moving to 537 from 711 this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region II District 11. The Trojans climbed the ranks as a result of besting Bonham 34-13.
