5A District 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012
Robinson was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Lennard 63-6. The Knights came in at 15 in the state poll after placing at number 30 last week.
Robinson extended the longest winning streak in 5A District 8 this week by beating the Longhorns, 63-6. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Martin Ruiz was the best wideout in the league this week as the Knights bested Lennard. Ruiz racked up three receptions for 68 yards. Austin Eads helped Robinson's passing attack out by catching three balls for 46 yards.
Todd Sims put up the best numbers through the air as Middleton lost to Spoto. He finished with a total of one completions for five yards and five touchdowns. Sims' favorite target this week was Amp Carswell, who caught one pass for five yards.
Reggie Brown was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 15 carries, he ran for 94 yards as Jesuit bested Keith Chattin's team. Teammate Kevin Newman added to the ground attack by rushing for 58 yards.
Shavar Manuel made the biggest impact on defense this week as Blake fell to the Tigers. The 6-foot-1 defensive end grabbed one sack.
Zain Gilmore provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Knights beat the Longhorns. He completed 10 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for 13 yards.
On the ground, Robinson's Ruiz has rushed for 297 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Travis Johnson. The Jesuit star has 12 catches for 210 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Yellowjackets take on the Knights. At the moment, Blake is in seventh, while Robinson is in first.
Dunedin was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to sixth in the league. The Falcons defeated the Falcons 51-6 earlier in the week.
