1A/2A/3A Northwest recap Oct. 9, 2012
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Sehome, who took down 70th ranked Burlington-Edison, 30-29.
Meridian was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from ninth to sixth in 1A/2A/3A Northwest. The Trojans defeated Nooksack Valley 42-14 earlier in the week.
Shawn Kenndy was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 62 yards as Sedro-Woolley fell to Ferndale. Teammate Kyle Morgan added to the ground attack by rushing for seven yards.
Elms was the best wideout in the league this week as the Cubs lost to the Golden Eagles. Elms racked up four receptions for 68 yards. Kenndy helped Sedro-Woolley's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Tanner Myhre put up the best numbers through the air as the Pioneers fell to Meridian. He finished with 11 completions for 116 yards and one touchdown. Myhre's favorite target this week was Levi Schram, who caught two passes for 43 yards.
Nooksack Valley's Myhre and Trey Handy have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 1A/2A/3A Northwest in both passing and receiving yards. Myhre has thrown for 1144 yards this season, while Handy, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 34 catches for 508 yards. Luke Christianson from Lynden leads the league in rushing with 428 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Mt. Baker takes on Friday Harbor. At the moment, the Mountaineers are in third, while the Wolverines are in seventh.
Ferndale extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sedro-Woolley, 55-14. The victory was the sixth in a row for the team.
