The Hempfield Black Knights are taking a road trip to take on the Northern York Polar Bears at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Hempfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
Hempfield managed to slip by Penn Manor the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Black Knights lost 9-2 to the Comets on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Black Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.
Lily Ashton made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Northern York hadn't done well against West Perry recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Polar Bears blew past the Mustangs 14-6. Considering the Polar Bears have won six matchups by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Northern York let Izzy Hobby and Hannah Keith run wild. Hobby got on base in all six of her plate appearances with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs, while Keith went 3-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Sammy Magee, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.
Northern York was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive contests.
Northern York's win was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Hempfield, their loss was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 5-4.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hempfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .413. However, it's not like Northern York struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
