Flint Metro recap October 22, 2013
Brandon scaled the state rankings by moving to 228 from 263 this week, the biggest jump in Flint Metro. The Blackhawks were able to move up by beating Holly 45-6.
Fenton added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Swartz Creek, 22-7. The win marks eighth in a row for the the Tigers.
Noah Sargent threw for 203 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Matt Sears was the best running back in the league this week. In 33 carries, he ran for 161 yards as Brandon beat the Bronchos. Teammate Brad Howlett added to the ground attack by rushing for 22 yards.
The Dragons' Brendon Fitch and Brandyn Matte led Flint Metro in both passing and receiving yards. Fitch has thrown for 1,852 yards this season, while Matte has 32 catches for 610 yards. Tim Pizzala's team's Sears leads the league in rushing yards with 839.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Fenton takes on second place Lapeer West.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Swartz Creek's Matte goes up against Linden's Kevin Bates.
Going into this week's contest against the Eagles, Brad Brown's team's Fitch needs 148 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when the Dragons and Linden face off next week.
Next week's game between Swartz Creek and Dennis Hopkins' team will feature a good passing match up as Fitch will test his arm against Bates' defensive ability.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Lapeer West takes on Fenton. The Panthers have allowed 113 points this season, while Jeff Setzke's team has given up 71.
There should be lots of points scored when the Eagles and the Dragons face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Linden comes in having scored 212 this season, while Swartz Creek has scored 260. The Eagles scored 17 points last week as they topped Lapeer East.
The Blackhawks led the league in scoring this week after putting up 45 points on Holly. Dylan Bland threw for 240 yards and 1 touchdown and ran for 15 yards during the win.
