Weldon is 8-2 against North Edgecombe since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Weldon Chargers will head out on the road to face off against the North Edgecombe Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Weldon will be strutting in after a win while North Edgecombe will be coming in after a defeat.
Weldon gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Friday. They breezed by KIPP P at home to the tune of 70-23.
Shaelyn Johnson was the offensive standout of the game as she dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Briana Moody, who scored 18 points.
Meanwhile, North Edgecombe pushed their score all the way to 60 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 73-60 to Washington County.
Despite the defeat, North Edgecombe saw an underclassman step up: KeZiyah Pittman scored 21 points. Another player making a difference was ChyAsia Garrett, who scored 11 points.
Weldon's win bumped their record up to 1-0. As for North Edgecombe, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Weldon couldn't quite finish off North Edgecombe in their previous meeting back in February and fell 58-55. Can Weldon avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
